After having attended Marshal Klaus's lecture on infant attachment at ILCA, I would say that there seems to be evidence to support the thought that gastric juices are stimulated by suckling in both mother and baby. Marshall shared that the villi of the intestine are stimulated and actually elongate during breastfeeding, increasing the overall surface available for absorption of nutrients. He noted that "many GI hormones are released during suckling....". Extrapolating from there, it would make sense that some mothers may be extra sensitive to this, or that some mothers perhaps experience and extra strong release of these? -Lisa ****************************************************************************** Lisa A.
