It's interesting to read the discussion on one sided feeding. A few years ago
Chloe Fisher did a lecture tour of Australia, and introduced the idea of
'finish the first side first' to many people - meaning that baby should be
allowed to feed from the first side for as long as they want to, to ensure
both fore and hind milk are taken, and thus avoiding the 'colic' associated
with too much foremilk. Unfortunately, some interpreted this as 'one sided
feeding' eg only offer one breast per feed, no matter what :/
Of course, some babies need both breasts per feed, some need one, some vary
feed to feed. I suppose the message is let the baby lead, and treat each
breast as a meal (I like that idea, sorry, I've forgotten which clever
soul used this!).
