Well, Judy, I am going to make a small effort to answer your question about why all these moms seem to want to pump. IT HAS BECOME A FAD! They talk to their friends (who are pumping) and they hear about how a father can't *really bond* with his baby unless he feeds him - so - VOILA - they MUST rent a pump. When they call me, I always advise them that they should wait until their breastfeeding is well established before pumping and giving a bottle. If one could see through the phone, I'm certain that I would bet getting some really odd looks. In the end they often insist on renting a pump and then what can I do, but let them have it? On the other hand, I often get calls from moms who've had preemies that are in the NICU. They have been either, not pumping, or only pumping at the hospital, or pumping with only a manuel pump. No one has told them at the hospital that they should be using an electric breast pump with a double pumping kit to properly establish their milk supply. Oh well - - - the bfing business can be a trying and frustrating one some days.
