I have a great way to convince skeptics that cup feding is possible with newborns...I have been doing it since I was 18! My mother gave birth to my youngest brother who had a cleft lip/palate. She would never have considered BF but was unable to bottlefeed either. They did not have the appliances that they offer today, and did not do the initial surgery to close the lip until 3 mos old. We had to cup feed this baby from birth until after his surgery healed. By then, my mother decided that it would be senseless to intoduce a bottle that she would soon enough want to take away, so continued with the cup. At that time, the hospital gave her beakers (like we used in chemistry class)...I wish I had a source for those as they worked rather well. Does anyone have ideas for what you use as "Cups"?? I often ask the parents for a shot glass which most people have around and they get the biggest kick out of that!! But it works really well and holds 1.5 oz. and can be cleaned/sterilized easily. I'm getting carried away by this service and I love it! Kathy Rubin, Freehold, NJ
