Catherine, I have always been under the impresion that Gestational Diabetes is a risk factor for developing Type II diabetes in the future. Some Type IIs are treated with insulin, some are not. I am not aware of any study that discusses the relationship between gestational diabetes and type of treatment used in future diabetes. I would guess that the mother who breastfeeds would stand a greater chance of post partum weight loss (and fat loss), although the most detrimental place to carry fat is the abdominal area and breastfeeding seems to mobilize butt fat specifically (why did I ever stop?????) The medical factophobia I mentioned earlier this week has to do with gestational diabetes. I have the facts (at least, I have the most current articles) and others have the phobia!! Anyway, in the process of my quest for the most current information, I stumbled across the American Diabetes Assn's Position Paper on Gestational Diabetes and was delighted to note that they recommend breastfeeding. 'Nuff said..... Queen of all sorts of obscure stuff
