Keeping in mind that you heard the story third hand and it's nice to give health professionals involved the benefit of the doubt--blood in feces of breastfed babies is very common, huh? As is, I suppose, cracked, bleeding nipples for several weeks postpartum? It really makes sense that nature would associate a behavior necessary to species survival and join it to blood loss, increased risk of infection, etc! I'd probably suggest the mother ask these physicians, whose practices obviously are research-based (if the story is correct), for there references re: blood in feces of breastfed babies as very common since the mother and LCs could find no references in the texts and journals they have available. What next?!?!? Karen
