Dear Debbie, Don't you just love the challenging cases, (right) Sounds like this mom has more then one problem here. I would suggest trying a silicone shield. Then working from the shield to the breast. You do risk the baby getting use to a shield but with an SNS at the breast along with a shield the baby may find the breast more appealing and give the mother the sense that the baby will nurse. Then comes the gentle reintroduction to the breast as described in previous messages, such as sleeping with baby, bathing with baby etc. She also needs to get some help with her other child if possible. (Of course she usually doesn't have this available, but it's worth a try) Also.... I've also had trouble with babies who get hooked on finger feeding... so I've been shying away from it too.
