Has this mother been checked for a prolactinoma?= Benign tumor >of the pituitary. As the name implies, one result is oversupply= of prolactin >which =3D oversupply/copious of breastmilk! This is the first time I've ever hearfd of possible rebound after= using cabbage. I am wondering if she had used it longer would she have= had similar effect? Has she tried posturing the baby differently? I have mom sit baby= up facing her while mom leans back slightly, as in a lounge chair, but= not to point of being prone. Excess milk slips out baby's mouth and is= less liekly to cause choking, difficulty, etc. Nursing one-sided usually is fine for these babies. As you noted,= growth is not a problem. However, gassiness may be from excess lactose (lots= of foremilk and less of hindmilk). What did milk look like that she= pumped? By the way, one treatment used for women with Prolactinoma is bromocriptine, which reduces milk production enough to make them comfortable. Any chance she could get some? Remember, Parolodel=81= is now no longer recommended for pp women for lactation suppression. She would= have to get it on prescription and be watched carefully due to nasty side effects, which include stroke, psychosis, etc. One woman in Michigan= had a cardiac arrest after taking it to dry up. I am wondering, however,= if a low dose might help her? It might be worth discussing with her physician. Check Riordan and Auerbach (I think in the Maternal Health or Maternal ILlness chapter; can't remember). Prolactinomas and therapy for same= is discussed there. %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% %% Kathleen G.
