Nikki I was also intrigued to hear about the new technology about to be field-tested by the ABA. What an innovation! But I have to agree with you when you say, "while it is important to see things from the mother's point of view, it seems best to see breastfeeding from two points of view: hers, and that of an on-lookers." The major viewpoint that the mother herself misses is being able to see _underneath_ - especially where the baby's chin and lower lip are sited. When I'm helping a mother with positioning/attachment I'll always sit/stand so that I can see underneath. And I've often caught myself looking at pictures of breastfed babies looking from the top, in a mother-eye view, and been midly frustrated not to be able to literally see the whole picture! And I notice that the ABA photos are very very often shown from this angle too. Maybe as seen from Down-Under? (sorry, couldn't resist.... :'() Now, it mothers were able to use the new technology AND possibly a webcam at the same time, so that the IBCLC/breastfeeding helper could see both views, then that would probably work best. Or one or the other in an RCT, perhaps?? Pamela (musing on Monday....) --------------------- http://www.theage.com.au/technology/technology-news/breastfeeding-mothers-get-help-from-google-glass-and-small-world-20140118-311s3.html "The Melbourne office of an innovation company called Small World is about to conduct a Google Glass trial with the Australian Breastfeeding Association that will effectively allow their telephone counsellors to see through the eyes of mothers while they breastfeed at home." Nikki here: while it is important to see things from the mother's point of view, it seems best to see breastfeeding from two points of view: hers, and that of an on-lookers.
