I actually took a look at the curriculum and found some of it presenting breastfeeding in a very outdated manner - including "advantages and disadvantages of breastfeeding versus formula" which I don't think is a helpful way to portray normal infant feeding. In all the years my son has been in the New York City school system I have never once heard of any teacher ever using any portion of that curriculum. Unless breastfeeding is embedded into the normal curriculum that has to be covered by the various assorted fad terms for policy measures (which now is "CORE CURRICULUM") I seriously doubt that breastfeeding will be included by teachers on any sort of systematic basis. I would take a look at what are the current topics being covered in the specific classroom and weave in some activities that seem appropriate rather than a stilted stand alone "lesson" made up by policy makers.

Best, Susan
