Dear Lactnet Friends: I am looking forward to this presentation at an on-line conference this fall by Dr. Lawrence Noble MD, FABM, IBCLC "What’s really wrong with one bottle? Whereas great improvements have been made in promoting total breastfeeding rates, exclusive breastfeeding rates remain below national objectives. Recent research has elucidated the importance of initial feeds on both short and long term health. This presentation will review current literature on the danger of formula. The role of feedings pertaining to changing the bacteria flora and its effect on infections and inflammatory diseases, including NEC, will be explored. In addition, the talk will concentrate on the profound effect of breastfeeding on long-term health by slowing initial growth rates in infants. Research has demonstrated the role of rapid infant weight gain on long term obesity, CV disease and type 2 diabetes. Up-to-date research will be presented, as will practical implications from the research on counseling breastfeeding mothers about colostrum, early milk supply and perceptions of poor weight gain. The importance of exclusive breastfeeding at the breast for developing self-regulation of food will be explained, as will the importance of the WHO growth charts." The study published in Pediatrics about limited formula supplementation undermines Healthy People 2020 goals for the US; specifically, to reduce the number of babies fed formula in the hospital. warmly, Nikki Lee RN, BSN, Mother of 2, MS, IBCLC, CCE, CIMI, ANLC, CKC Author:* Complementary and Alternative Medicine in Breastfeeding Therapy* www.breastfeedingalwaysbest.com https://www.facebook.com/nikkileehealth *Get my FREE webinar series * *********************************************** Archives: http://community.lsoft.com/archives/LACTNET.html To reach list owners: [log in to unmask] Mail all list management commands to: [log in to unmask] COMMANDS: 1.
