The GI doc is correct, in that any proteins a mom is ingesting can cause a problem. BUT he is wrong that elemental formula always fixes the problem. Corn syrup is the sugar source, so kids who have a problem with corn do not improve. In fact, I have had a few kids who are NOT reacting to dairy and are needing supplementation get happy going "backwards" to Similac Advance, because it does not contain corn. Enfamil Lipil does not contain corn syrup solids, but does contain a presumably small amount of dextrates (derived from corn) as a "prebiotic". I do not see many of these babies actually lose weight. I would be very concerned about eosinophilic esophagitis, which is diagnosed by endoscopy. -- Kathy Leeper, MD, IBCLC, FABM Medical Director MilkWorks-nonprofit breastfeeding support center 5930 South 58th, Suite W, Lincoln, NE 68516 (402) 423-6402, FAX 423-6422,* **www.milkworks.org*<http://www.milkworks.org/> *Creating a healthier community by helping mothers breastfeed their babies....* * * * * * * *Email Confidentiality Notice: The information contained in this transmission is confidential, proprietary or privileged and may be subject to protection under the law, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
