Hi Karyn-Grace, When I was reading your post I was thinking OT, or public health. I am not sure what the newest requirements are for IBCLC so you will have to carefully see what fits that. I would not recommend NP program, becoz you said you really don't want to pursue RN, my understanding is NP is based on medical model, lots of pharmacology etc. If you want to practice that way, be able to prescribe for moms/babies, that might work. But if you want to do private practice, more wellness-oriented, then you just need the credentials that IBCLC requires, the physiology courses, etc. I would be very reluctant to go into debt becoz I would not predict you would have a large income in PP to repay that debt. So perhaps look into a nutrition, dietician, counseling, OT, COTA (in US we have certified OT asst, 18 mo program), public health if you can find these programs in a public university (much cheaper than private in US), or a community college (we have that here they offer assoc. degree as opposed to baccaulaureate.). And then there are some lactation degrees, not sure where they are offered.
