Just to add to this. The fear of female and the fear of female bodily fluids can also be a factor. Here in the UK, social services are very suspicious of breastmilk, as something they cannot control. We've had incidences where breastfeeding, and EBM, has been forbidden as cited as a child protection issue: the mother may poison herself in order to poison the baby. So even in front of social workers, the mother cannot breastfeed, in case she has poisoned herself prior, in order to kill the baby. This madness was compounded, when it was used as the reason for taking a child at birth - how could the mother have rejoined herself in the maternity ward? Not knowing when she might labour? It's hard even writing that. But it is on record, with babies being removed at the moment of birth, that the mother cannot breastfed for one moment... in case deliberate harm is being done to the child. Breastmilk is a female body fluid. Fear of females, and their 'icky' body fluids is very strong in some parts of our cultures. The definition of misogyny is fear or women, not hatred... fear. :-( Morgan Gallagher Elizabeth Brooks wrote: > The problem is that the *fear* of being sued in the litigious-happy-USA > often clouds the clinical picture. *********************************************** Archives: http://community.lsoft.com/archives/LACTNET.html To reach list owners: [log in to unmask] Mail all list management commands to: [log in to unmask] COMMANDS: 1.
