I'm in the process of looking for references for the importance of infant
sucking at breast beyond *the feed.* A mom I'm working with has been told
by her pedi to not let her baby use her as a pacifier (sigh) and she has
asked me to give him some literature on this to the contrary. When I
discussed with her that pacifier means peace bringer and the myriad of reasons for
providing baby with unlimited breast access she had an ah-ha moment and
said of course the breast was always around and man made the plastic pacifier.

So far there's lots on premie non-nutritive suck but I'd like references
for all infants. I found Linda Palmer's excellent piece, Nursing: It's More
Than Breastfeeding and Every Mother Can Do It, but would like more.
I'll continue to search but maybe someone has something at their
fingertips; thank you.
