There have been many reports in the media about a baby who died while being held by his mother during a long plane trip from Dulles, USA, to Kuwait. The Association of Breastfeeding Mothers (ABM) has being quoted as saying: 'Sitting up in bed while holding your baby is very dangerous, especially if you fall asleep.' The ABM repudiate this statement, saying they were completely misquoted. Pam Lacey, the ABM Chair, has spoken to and emailed the managing editors of both the Sun and the Daily Mail asking for a retraction and apology on both their printed versions and on-line editions. She also made a complaint about the actual journalist involved and copied him all the relevant emails. Most of the online reports have now been amended to omit the statement. Unfortunately, the damage has already been done. If you see or hear any references to the quote, please let people know the truth.
