Just to let you know, while hearing your pain, promiscuity and drug use can be otherwise seen than as just a sin. My daughter, while brought up without religious teachings, works with heroin prostitutes in paid service for the Salvation Army. They offer ''soup, saop and salvation'' by means of coffee and sandwiches, clean needles and condoms and the salvation comes with it, by being cared for as any other human being. She is assisted by a gard, who is armed with the power of his uniform and an over sized flashlight. What one does is not necessarily who one is. Not everyone is able to be strong and choose the narrow path in times of poverty and tragedy. I like to think that my daughter likes doing this work because she was given what she needed whenever needed and for as long as she needed it as a breastfed child. Warmly, Gonneke, IBCLC, MOM, living in an area in The Netherlands that is seen as one of the worst in drug-use and prostitution (and no, that is not Amsterdam) and with the lowest breastfeeding rates. --- On Tue, 11/24/09, Henya KnitMammy <[log in to unmask]> wrote: From: Henya KnitMammy <[log in to unmask]> Subject: Re: [LACTNET] Funning on the corner To: [log in to unmask] Date: Tuesday, November 24, 2009, 11:59 PM To all thous who are outraged - come and visit me someday in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, New York. Where the drugs are obtainable as easily as candy from the corner store, (I actually have to ask the friendly neighborhood drug dealers, who are doing business on my front stoop to please move over so I can get into the building). To the corner of Union and Utica, where the shots are fired practically every day, and definitely every night. Come here, where the prostitutes are doing business standing up right against the wall in all kinds of weather. and yes the rest of us gets to watch whether we want it or not. Come here so you can see me get spit up on just because I happen to be white and Jewish. Come and see our kids attached and since you are probably wondering - I will tell you one Jewish 10 year old yeshiva student does not usually attack a group of black youths and "asks for it". And no the cops do not respond. As to the morality of prostitution - I believe it is immaterial. I was not passing a moral judgment at all. Also I have been out of money, and under the threat of eviction, and without food - and I found other ways to eat and feed my family. and yes at one point I did not know English too, so I learned. The last time I checked the prostitution was illegal in US, except for certain locales. What I meant was that a women, who is being promiscuous - ether professionally or otherwise is at risk for sexually transmitted desice, just like a man who is doing the same thing. On the other hand people, who are monogamous have a lot less chance of thous desises. Moral or not - it is true. Personally I could not care less about the sex life of others, but we leave with the consequence of our actions. I choose not to vaccinate my kids - so I do not complain when we have a mums outbreak and blame society. I keep an eye on my kids and if needed keep them at home. What I think is outrageous that in the interest of not discriminating against one group of people it is perfectly OK to disregard the rights and sensibilities of the other group. Please tell me there is no difference between a woman, who has six kids from six different men, and wants none of them - and yes, there are plenty of them where I live too. and a woman, who is married and has six kids with the same husband and wanted each and every one of thous kids. The last time I had a baby the lady in the next room was brought in by the cups, - she drowned her baby in the toilet. Tell me that we should be receiving the same medical testing and the same counseling from the social worker. I am sorry that the point I was trying to make was missed and instead you concentrated on the question of morality, that was nor relevant to what I was saying at all. What I wanted to say was that unfortunately it is practically impossible to refuse unwonted testing, or counselling, or profiling. Especially if you are on Medicaid. What I wanted to that the powers that be do not look at paitiens as individuals - instead we are a set of statistics - to be fitted into a certain slot with proper boxes checked off. Sorry this came out so long. It seems to me that one has to post very carefully here expressing ether liberal opinions or none at all. And that is not right. So I would consider myself a hypocrite if I did not say that yes - guilty as charged, I believe that promiscuity is immoral, but that is my personal belief, one I am not trying to push on any one here, there or anywhere. All the best. Henya in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, New York - come and visit. .
