A great group of breastfeeding advocates have been working hard in local hospitals to meet the BFHI (or in California, the Breastfeeding Model Hospital Policy Recommendations). I was at a meeting where they discussed the barrier to this step - lawyers! When the term "informed consent" is used in their milieu - it requires a PHYSICIAN to provide the information and obtain the "informed consent". This clearly reinforces the importance of an "interdisciplinary team" when working out the issues related to improving hospitals policies and practices! They are working on this right now, and it will take some give and take - but I hope that they will come up with something that will be useful and useable in their hospital - and that will meet the requirements of this step. Jeanette Panchula, BSW, RN, PHN, IBCLC California, USA ...and I hope I don't break the rules TOO much by asking you to stop by the Poster Sessions at ILCA - I will be presenting on the "Birth and Beyond California" Project and would LOVE to meet Lactnetters face-to-face! *********************************************** Archives: http://community.lsoft.com/archives/LACTNET.html To reach list owners: [log in to unmask] Mail all list management commands to: [log in to unmask] COMMANDS: 1.
