We have always worn business casual plus lab coat for inpatient and 
outpatient IBCLCs.  However, a few years ago the lactation department was 
approved for scrubs.  Our department scrub color is purple so we are not 
confused with any other department.  An individual LC can choose.  I enjoy 
wearing scrubs with my lab coat while others in the department may wear 
street clothes with lab coat.  I think the main thing is identification.  Our work 
is typically not that messy.
