This is interesting that you posted this. Not to get off topic about your question of babies aspirating breastmilk to the point of needing care but I wanted to add a second part to this discussion. I have worked with a couple WIC clients that have taken their baby's to the ER after the baby supposedly turned blue or choked on breastmilk while BF. Both babies were fine and these were normal, healthy babies with no anatomical issues that would increase risk of aspiration while bf. On several more occasions I have talked to clients who also believed their babies had momentarily stopped breathing but then were ok so they didn't go to the ER. One common thread I have noticed in working with these cases is that there seems to be a hyper-anxiety amongst some moms. Some of these clients may have past issues with CPS and are afraid that if they are perceived as negligent in any way that they will lose their children. They often have deep rooted fears of SIDS, etc. I often find that these moms are very detached from their infant's cues as well. So anyhow, while this post is not an answer to your question I find it interesting to see similar issues arise at our WIC clinic.
