Hi All, At the risk of making some of you upset, I just have to say that I think whether a breastfeeding mother is seperated from her child in the Texas case is secondary to how these women have been treated leading up to the removal from the ranch. Let's not forget that these women have been mistreated, manipulated by their husbands, have been forced to marry men three times their own age as soon as they reach puberty and have been forced to bear many children. Not to mention that the children sometimes don't know who their biological mother or father is! So, I think the more important issue is empowering these women to think for themselves rather than having a elder husband thinking for them. Arrest these men for poligamy and test these children to find out who their rightful mother and father is, because has anyone put any thought to the possibility that there is probably incest going on in this ranch as well? I am all in favor of breastfeeding advocacy and I was glad to learn the judge allowed breastfeeding infants to stay with their mothers. But, as someone pointed out, these women have been ingrained to breed, and breastfeeding interfers with that, so lets think about this realistically- will these women really breastfeed their babies for 2 years, 18 months, 1 year, 6 months? Possibly not. This is not an easy situation for the authorities in Texas, they are doing the best they can with what is available to them.
