A very kind soul politely pointed out my typo for the Tripling. It is 10 and 10-1/2 months
not WEEKS.

Also, someone suggested to me a much more APPROPRIATE use of the average doubling
and tripling of the birth weight -- and perhaps that was how this indicator was initially used.
The average weight doubling time could be used to illustrate to parents how rapidly infants
grow. That sort of illustrative use, rather than diagnostic use seems much more sensible.

Using such an illustration, however, I would still caution parents that there is a VERY wide
range of normal doubling and tripling time and not to use it to monitor their own babies ---
and then, as appropriate to the stage of parenting, offer examples of more appropriate
indicators.

Best, Susan
