I know we talked about these a tad quite a while ago - was wondering if anyone has done any more research on these. These bottles are made by First Years and are quite interesting. Outer nipple is wide based dome but very 'squishable' and there is an inner blue soft tube that the milk comes out of which then fills the dome. Baby must use compression to get milk into the dome and then suction to get the milk out. I have used it twice now with babies having some difficulties and it seems to work pretty well. One baby was having a difficult time going back and forth between breast and the Dr. Brown nipple - I believe due to the very different skills needed for each. Mom happened to have the Breastflow bottle - we tried it and he did very well. (this baby requires supplementation) 2nd baby is having an issue with compression skills (they are there but sporadic) and was having a really difficult time with Dr. Brown, Avent and all other bottles parents tried - she was choking and aspirating even with paced feeds - even with me! And I can pace feed very well. We tried her on the Breastflow and not only did she not aspirate or choke but she took her meal at a nice pace and was comfortable doing so. My hope is that this nipple will help her (along with other techniques we are using) to develop her compression skills - she is currently unable to attach to the breast, stay on and get milk. I would really love other input on this - is anyone else finding them useful in this manner? Is anyone finding them useless?? Pros and cons?? I tried these with these two babies because the parents had them and the babies were having difficulties on other bottles. All input appreciated! Warmly, Jaye Always interested in more information.
