Could you explain what Mag is and what NBN is please. Thanks Rachel -----Original Message----- From: Sara Munday [mailto:[log in to unmask]] Sent: Friday, September 07, 2007 9:31 PM Subject: ABM in NBN against hospital policy Hello All - Learned an interesting lesson from my sister when she had her baby last year. She was on Mag, and the hospital had a policy that no baby could be with mom on Mag unless mom had visitor with her. Hospital had strict visiting hours that ended at 8pm.... Staff RN asked mom if "baby could have an artificial nipple/pacifier". My sister, being a first time mom, didn't understand that this was code for, "Can we feed your baby ABM?" To which she would certainly have said "No!" But being tired from a delivery and feeling icky from Mag, she agreed - and ended up separated for OVER 12 HOURS!!!!! Baby was formula fed that whole night. My sister was frantic by morning and furious when she realized what had happened. I was furious, but at a day's drive away, I couldn't do much except encourage my sister to read them the riot act. Lesson learned: Teach mom before delivery to REFUSE Artificial nipples, pacifiers, anything that might enable staff to pacify baby without her presence. Sara Munday RN Hoping to get into mother/baby nursery where couplet care is the goal (in progress) and breastfeeding is smiled upon.... --------------------------------- Boardwalk for $500? In 2007?
