Sorry, forgot one thing...I ALWAYS get babies skin to skin with mom. Have to kick all those visitors out of the room.. Those of you gals that don't work in a hospital setting have no idea of how rude visitors can be. That really makes me mad when I see a baby showing obvious hunger cues and mom is too embarrassed to ask friends to leave. I wish we had stronger stance on visitors. So Jaye if you are reading this,,,, This compeltely makes me crazy!!! I encourage moms to take off their shirts unwrap babies to diaper and latching becomes sooo much easier.. esp the sidelying position... I do put a sign on the door that says "breastfeeding session going on now, please do not enter". Do you find that visitors get in your way also. I really need to work on this one with the hospital policy. It is hard to work in this setting, no doubt. You have so many people to "please" but I have gotten a little more stern but polite with visitors. We only have a few hours to get to these moms and this is their precious time and we may be the only help they get. So, i advice them to put on their outgoing voicemail..Sorry we cant come to the phone right now.. we are changing diapers or feeding baby or sleeping.. let them give all the pertinent info on the message ie. its a girl 7 lbs 3oz etc and then give them some peace... Sorry for getting off topic.. How do you handle this touchy situation with visitors?
