Hi Lactnetters from around the world,

I just did an archive search on the lastest "chatter" about Depo
Provera.(There does not seem to be any posts after 2005) I am shocked, as I
work here in South LA, how many moms are getting Depo in the Hospital, 2 and
3 days postpartum,. It is HEARTBREAKING to have to inform moms who WANT to
bf that the reason the have no milk may be because of that DEPO shot they
recieved in the hospital. It becomes even more difficult to explain to them
"why" their Dr's told them that it would have no effect on bf, if they were
told anything at all.

What are we as LC's doing about this problem, and what if anything can we do
to focus more attention on this epidemic!!! Is this only happening in poor
communities? I can't imagine that if wealthy women, who want to breastfeed
were experiencing this problem, that there would not be more Dr's listening
to the fact that Depo is causing problems with BF.
