Kellie, I loved what you said about the priorities you have for feeding your family on limited funds. Sadly, you are in the minority. Most people do not have a basic idea of nutrition. Also, even if a poor mother wants to feed her family fresh, whole foods, the areas in which they live do not have supermarkets like the suburbs do. For instance, produce is often scarce, of poor quality, and expensive, while the junk food is cheap, prevalent and attractively displayed. It is also easier to carry take -out from McDonald's on the bus than it is to have an armload of groceries. Where I live there are rural and urban poor, with many issues including lack of access to resources, reliance on a food pantry or other food service to make ends meet, and little or no education in meal preparation and/or nutrition. For some of them, contact with a person like me (lay b/f counselor) is the only understandable conversation they have about nutrition. *********************************************** To temporarily stop your subscription: set lactnet nomail To start it again: set lactnet mail (or digest) To unsubscribe: unsubscribe lactnet All commands go to [log in to unmask] The LACTNET email list is powered by LISTSERV (R).
