The reason Cheerios are so good is that they do not "melt" in the cereal bowl, or toilet bowl, for that matter! The reason for that is that they are manufactured with something called trisodium phosphate - TSP. Phosphates are used as cleaning products, and do a really good job. They are also responsible for algal bloom in lakes and rivers, removing oxygen from the water, and killing off quite a bit of the life within the waterway. It does make one wonder what this TSP does to the digestive tract of a baby? Probably another good reason not to use Cheerios, unfortunately. To bring this to a breastfeeding related topic, a speech therapist attending one of my LLL Meetings told the mothers that they needed to get their babies eating solid foods, as soon as possible, because otherwise the baby would never learn to move food from the front to the back of the mouth. She felt Cheerios were a good start. Oh, the wonderful memories of teaching the professional... Best wishes, Sam Doak << I must discuss this with my granddaughter to warn her against buying them for use as "targets" in the toilet bowl when my great grandson will be toilet training in a year or so. A "time-honored" tradition among her young male relatives will have to be broken with this next generation.
