Jean writes: I do know that in Ohio at least, and probably in other states as well, it is illegal to use the term "nurse" in referring to onesself unless one is legally licensed either as a registered nurse (RN) or as a licensed practical nurse (LPN), the latter being the same professional level of training and responsibility which other states have named licensed vocational nurse (LVN). The same is true for Physical Therapy, a state-licensed profession. One cannot legally call oneself a physical therapist, or use the initials "PT" unless one has passed the Boards ( and this only once). However this does not mean that consumers don't get confused or misinformed. Some MDs or Chiropracters, etc use modalities/treatments that are considered "PT" modalities/treatments and charge for PT services when not provided by a licensed therapist. This is not kosher, and these kinds of overlapping issues can cause ruffling of professional feathers.
