Nikki Lee wondered about the definition of breastfeeding not mentioned
in the article. However, I would be more concerned about the definition
of intelligence -- it seems that IQ in this country is measured by IQ
tests (standardized tests that only measure left brain linear processed
thought.) That is a very narrow definition of intelligence. We now
know that intelligence is actually measured by not only IQ but EQ as
well. According to Daniel Goleman, emotional intelligence (EQ)
incorporates the qualities of self-awareness, self-mangagement, social
awareness, and relationship management. One may be intelligent, but not
emotionally intelligent. EQ is the only quality that's flexible and
able to allow one to change/adapt to one's environment. Because the
Horwood study used teacher ratings of children (aged 8-18) of various
performances that included social interactions, this study would be a
better indicator of EQ.
