There is a relationship between weight and estrogen. The heavier girls (and boys?) tend to have high estrogen in their system, which surely contributes to early puberty. Anectodally, my 13yo daughter is 5'1"/1.5m, ~100 pounds/45 kgm, and she is starting to fill out. I started my cycles in Jr high, about 13yo. She was b/f for 18mo, and we do not drink cow milk. I view her as "normal" but have to remind her physician (and my husband's family) that it is ~normal~ for little girls to start filling out ~13/14yo, not 8/9 as we tend to see around here. But it sure is difficult being the "normal" girl when all of your friends have started their cycles... Best wishes, Heather "Sam" Doak <<Do you think the early onset of puberty has any thing to do with overweight? There is a connection between formula feeding and obesity. Most of the little girls I see with earlier onset of puberty are too heavy. The flip side of this is that if you are breastfed and grow normally, gain weight normally, then you hit puberty at a "normal" time.
