Seema - I have found it useful, when trying to persuade a physician of anything to do with lactation, to appeal to what is biologically normal. In terms of normal intake in the first week the golden rule would then be what happens if a baby is exclusively breastfeeding. I've seen a number of different studies re production in first few days but here are some numbers from Hartmann (see p. 113 of Bfdg, A Guide for the Med Profession, 6th Ed, Ruth Lawrence) Day 1 - 50 grams Day 2 - 190 Day 3 - 400 Day 4 - 625 Day 5 - 700 I have found physicians to be generally unamused by marbles and walnuts! On the other hand they are most willing to accept that healthy, term babies are designed to be just fine on minimal qties days 1 and 2 given that's what they would get if successfully breastfeeding, normal lactogenesis. Hope this different approach does the job. Cheers, Joanna Koch IBCLC N. Ca. Seema wrote <<I am having hard time convincing the pediatrician who I work with about baby's tummy size. MY coworker Doc doesn't believe the baby's tummy size is marble size day 1-2. and walnut size at onw week and he doesn;t want to me to tell my moms this info.>> *********************************************** To temporarily stop your subscription: set lactnet nomail To start it again: set lactnet mail (or digest) To unsubscribe: unsubscribe lactnet All commands go to [log in to unmask] The LACTNET mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renowned LISTSERV(R) list management software together with L-Soft's LSMTP(R) mailer for lightning fast mail delivery.
