I believe a frenotomy would be considered to be a surgical procedure and in the US this can only be performed by an MD, DO, or DDS. I know that in some areas of the US (CA) an NP or PA can be trained in their own facility to perform such tasks, but it would be a real stretch for LCs to get legal permission to do this in the US. I don't think we want to go there just now. We are being accepted as part of the allied health team and that's a big step forward in 20+ years of existence! I think we'd open a huge can of worms to suggest that we can do surgery at this point in our evolution (as much as most of us would like to!) What's next? Incising abcesses? No, we just have to train peds, obs, ENTs etc that this needs to be done and how to do it. Get Dr Jain's video and tote it around. Lend it to moms to take to the dr for their visit. Show it to any dr who is BF friendly and will sit still. Persistence, patience, repetition - they will finally get it. and send that ENT she went to as many articles as you can! :-) Pat in SNJ *********************************************** To temporarily stop your subscription: set lactnet nomail To start it again: set lactnet mail (or digest) To unsubscribe: unsubscribe lactnet All commands go to [log in to unmask] The LACTNET mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renowned LISTSERV(R) list management software together with L-Soft's LSMTP(R) mailer for lightning fast mail delivery.
