Dear Friends: _http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/5109234.stm_ (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/5109234.stm) "Adding prebiotics to formula feed can help cut the risk of babies developing a form of eczema, research suggests." The research focused on 192 healthy children considered to be at high risk of developing allergies. At least one parent of each child had been diagnosed with an allergic disease. Breastfeeding advice Parents of every child considered for the study were advised to breastfeed their children. However, none of the children who ended up taking part was breastfed. The children of those who, nevertheless, decided to start with formula feeding were assigned to one of two groups. Half the children received formula milk supplemented with a prebiotic mixture made up of two types of carbohydrates called galacto-oligosaccharides and long chain fructo-oligosaccharides. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Another thing to add to the chemical cocktail; I imagine this will increase prices. I wonder what Valerie McClain would discover about the sources for the prebiotics? warmly, Nikki Lee RN, MS, Mother of 2, IBCLC, RLC, CCE craniosacral therapy practitioner Faculty, Lactation Division Maternal-Infant Program, Union Institute Film Reviews Editor, JHL www.breastfeedingalwaysbest.com *********************************************** To temporarily stop your subscription: set lactnet nomail To start it again: set lactnet mail (or digest) To unsubscribe: unsubscribe lactnet All commands go to [log in to unmask] The LACTNET mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renowned LISTSERV(R) list management software together with L-Soft's LSMTP(R) mailer for lightning fast mail delivery.
