Unfortunately, there have been incidents in Texas. Texas also has a trespassing law that allows a private business owner to force a person to leave whom they don't want there. Before having the person arrested, however, they have to warn the person and ask him/her to leave.  The two laws conflict. If a person was forced to leave b/c of race, religion, etc. they would have a right to sue under state civil rights law. BFIP laws usually are not civil rights laws.  My understanding is that most b'nesses in TX have been accomodating once educated, but there are some that are not. 
Having said that, this father's story sounds a little odd.
