The recent question on acidophilus for a 7 week old has me wondering - is
there any minimum age for using oral acidophilus in an infant? I doubt there
are any studies of this, but does anyone know of an authoritative
recommendation? Jack Newman recommends 2 doses a day of powder sucked off a
finger for only 2 days, with a preference for Gentian Violet instead -
however, there is no mention that I can find of how early such a treatment
can be started. We are seeing a mom who is 3 weeks postpartum for thrush in
our clinic tomorrow, so I'd love to hear any ideas about whether to
recommend acidophilus (we recommend the Jarro brand "Baby Jarrodophilus",
which I believe has a blend of probiotics) to a baby this young?

Thanks!
