One of our Public Health Nurses reported that a father was insisting that
his wife pump for 5 minutes and throw her milk away "because I want my baby
to get the rich hind milk"...and if the baby indicated interest in
continuing to nurse, after his wife felt she was "empty," he than gave the
baby a bottle with formula!

There is a LOT of misunderstanding, both in the lay community and among
health care workers about the foremilk-hindmilk and the lactose overload
information.

When we discuss this or write about it, it's important to stress the
importance of HUMAN MILK - at whatever stage it is - and all its valuable
components...fat being only one small part of it!

Does anyone have a patient-directed handout started - or is willing to start
- to address this issue?
