We were lucky enough to have Dr. Randall Craig, a local reproductive endocrinologist, as guest speaker at this month's local ILCA chapter meeting. We asked him about domperidone because he's one of the local docs who is willing to prescribe it. We LC's were under the impression that Domperidone has been removed by the FDA because of the fatalities associated with intravenous use, although as another Lactneteer mentioned a few weeks ago, the IV prep hasn't been available for 20 years. Dr. Craig agreed that the IV prep did cause problems, but that the drug was removed because of abuse! Evidently women who took the medication assumed that, "Some is good, more must be better," and dramatically exceeded maximum recommended doses for the drugs, hoping for more milk. These high doses did lead to cardiac problems, which is why the FDA stepped in and protected us from ourselves once again (tongue in cheek). So they'd rather remove the magic milk-making drug instead of doing a better job of advising patients against the side effects of overdose, and possibly implementing a consent form. Hmph. Speaking of the FDA and Domperidone, many local moms have recently had their Domperidone shipments from globaldrug.tv (from New Zealand) seized by Customs, after which the moms got a nastygram from them, daring them to challenge the Customs' ruling. Some of these moms were already taking the drug and ordered refills, only to be left with little or no time to find an alternate source before running out and having to quit cold-turkey. They also won't get their money back, adding insult to injury. Debbie Gillespie, IBCLC, LLLL Sunny Tempe, AZ On Mon, 3 Apr 2006 10:04:44 -0700, Hoover, Janet - DH <[log in to unmask]> wrote: >Hello!
