I've searched the archives and the CDC website, and cannot find where allegedly the CDC recommends that babies not be breastfed while in a pool. There are several pages devoted to safe swimming, but I don't find that there. As earlier posts have pointed out, this logically makes no sense--I was told it might be because of spit up (like the formula fed baby can't spit up in the pool) or the baby might swallow some water (but we have infant swimming lessons). I am trying to answer a question for the township attorney in a recent highly publicized situation.
Thanks,
Melissa Vance, JD, LLLL
