Hello! I need your help if you know anything about relactation. I have permission to post. Background: This mother came to our LLL meetings for 3-4 months before having this baby, now 4 wks old. She quit nursing her two older children quickly after birth due to sore nipples and persistent mastitis. She does NOT have support at home. Husband has older, bottlefed children and doesn't understand the need for breastmilk. She stopped breastfeeding week 3 and baby is miserable on formula! She is up all night with a screaming baby and now they are trying soy formula to now avail. She called me today to try to relactate. She handpumped (w/ Avent) a half ounce from each breast this morning. She feels a letdown with each bottle feeding and still leaks. Just completed a 10 day course of antibiotics for the mastitis. So, I would like to help her prevent the mastitis AND relactate. Any ideas on how to balance both? I told her lectithin for the mastitis and am going to give her a full list of ideas tonight (I am heading out the door) and told her relactation is possible with full supply a possibility in her situation. She asked how soon she could expect a full supply - that I do not know. I will be getting her a Symphony pump tonight or tomorrow. She is also anxious to get the baby back to the breast, which I encouraged. Should we be cautious about putting the baby to the breast when the supply is low? I have an SNS she can use too. Would that be wise? Thanks for your help. She is so heartbroken and wants to breastfeed SO BAD. She just bowed to the pressure of the mastitis and her unsupportive family and now regrets it badly. thanks in advance, micky feel free to reply privately or direct me to websites *********************************************** To temporarily stop your subscription: set lactnet nomail To start it again: set lactnet mail (or digest) To unsubscribe: unsubscribe lactnet All commands go to [log in to unmask] The LACTNET mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renowned LISTSERV(R) list management software together with L-Soft's LSMTP(R) mailer for lightning fast mail delivery.
