Denise: What an interesting observation! I had not caught the possible correlation between anxiety/depression and unneccessary pump use. I'll have to look into these moms' histories a little further. I also work with affluent moms with large disposable incomes. As soon as a new "gadget" comes out, they have to have it, whether they need it or not. I sometimes ask a mother what she is planning on doing with all the milk she is pumping. The reaction is an initial blank stare, then a startled "Oh!" as her brain begins to ask, "What AM I going to do with all this milk?" A dad told me once that they were all set for breastfeeding - he had purchased a new freezer the day before, for the express purpose of storing all the milk his wife was going to pump! Thanks for today's "food for thought".
