Hi, Renee: I'm one of those who have been in the "business" 20+ years. I often find myself referring to Gabrielle Palmer's book as well as anything by Maureen Minchin. I would highly recommend searching thru the older literature to read anything about the "politics" of breastfeeding. It's quite fascinating reading, albeit quite depressing. To know that the thinking has not really changed in 20-30 years. Now I know how childbirth educators feel when they look at the progress of their profession, which at this point is a solid reverse trend! As wonderful as the annual ILCA conferences are, I was truly depressed during and after attending this year's. Not only is there not a good forward momentum in the area of lactation, but we are all getting old! And as I look over my shoulder, I see very few stepping up to take my place. Sigh...
