Dear Friends: I understand that any suffocation will show up on an autopsy; there is also often some form of struggle. Crib/cot death is a diagnosis of exclusion. I feel like never using the term SIDS again; I want to call this type of death what it was called just a few years ago, crib death. I am angry at this nonsense, especially in view of Dr. Wight's post, about the breastfeeding section of the AAP not being allowed to add a footnote of disagreement. I also wonder why there isn't more of a push to get tobacco out of the baby's environment. The 'back to sleep' campaign was very successful, and crib death incidence did go down after this campaign. So why not a campaign against tobacco in a baby's world, which has more and stronger evidence showing harm? warmly, Nikki Lee RN, MS, Mother of 2, IBCLC, CCE Maternal-Child Adjunct Faculty Union Institute and University Film Reviews Editor, Journal of Human Lactation www.breastfeedingalwaysbest.com *********************************************** To temporarily stop your subscription: set lactnet nomail To start it again: set lactnet mail (or digest) To unsubscribe: unsubscribe lactnet All commands go to [log in to unmask] The LACTNET mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renowned LISTSERV(R) list management software together with L-Soft's LSMTP(R) mailer for lightning fast mail delivery.
