Kathy highlights some important points. Relactation is not easy! I recently saw a mother who was taking *one* fenugreek capsule per day, using a manual pump incorrectly and infrequently and not putting baby to the breast. She was expecting her milk supply to increase! She is actually very committed to relactating, but her LC had not given her sufficient information and help. Mothers need to know that induced or relactation requires a huge commitment of time, effort and plenty of moral and practical support from those closest to her. In this pill-popping society this reality really needs to be spelled out. While we can't guarantee the amount of milk she will produce, we can promise that she will be a breastfeeding mother. One adoptive mother who was producing a fair portion of her baby's needs told a group of students that even if she did not produce one drop of milk, this is how she would feed her baby - at the breast!
