I second Jeanette Panchula's statement that mothers who attempt to relactate really need to know what they will need to do before they commit to it. I generally talk to moms the same way Jeanette describes, first find out her motivation, then tell her what is involved, and I often ask her to think about it for at least a few hours and call me back if she decides to move forward. A mom who quit breastfeeding once is at higher risk of quitting again, because now a non-existant milk supply is added onto whatever problems they had in the first place that made breastfeeding untenable. It takes a lot of work. I almost prefer when mom didn't even try to breastfeed and wants to relactate, then at least there is no baggage, just teaching the baby how to latch and rebuilding the supply.
