It's quite clear that there is a variety of responses to just about every drug or hormone - and this mom must be having an unusual response. As a nurse, I know that we have people that react totally opposite with many medications - which is why we are asked to observe them carefully. I'll never forget talking to a women who mentioned that she was having trouble going back to having sexual relations with her husband because she cried whenever she had an orgasm. - this was prior to having a pregnancy or a baby - her response, even when being treated most respectfully and gently - was to cry. The feeling would leave her gradually, and she would be fine after a few minutes. She finally came to the conclusion that she just had that response - and learned to deal with it, for the sake of her marriage. There may have been some unremembered or unknown aspects to her history, but she couldn't say that she remembered ever having had a negative encounter that would have been a cause for this response. It may be that this is the same with this mom? She should be monitored for Postpartum Depression - but she may have this response due to her own body chemistry and may need to learn coping mechanisms for it?
