In the recent paper: Feeding practices in 105 counties of rural China X. Wang et al., Child: Care, Health and Development Volume 31 Issue 4 Page 417 - July 2005 The study says: "49.7% of children began to have complementary food at 7 months or older, because some mothers thought their breastmilk was enough for their babies." Then goes on to say: "Protein intake was insufficient for children in rural China. The rural people lacked health knowledge and were greatly influenced by traditional feeding practices." While the study measures certain health parameters up to age 6 months, finding exlusive breastfeeding to shine above supplemented, it makes absolutely no measure or mention beyond 6 months to provide any support to the statement that they do not receive enough protein. While there are studies in countries where maternal malnutrition is high, that slightly suggest that babies need more protein after 6 months (and usually the logic is weak), and this is what they base their conclusion on, it is these rural peoples of China who have the incredible health and longevity that we covet and praise in cancer and heart studies, and whose health is now rapidly declining with the onset of Westernized diets. My son had little supplementation before two years due to allergic complications. He is and always has been so healthy and tall and coordinated and bright. The poor protein-deficient child. *********************************************** To temporarily stop your subscription: set lactnet nomail To start it again: set lactnet mail (or digest) To unsubscribe: unsubscribe lactnet All commands go to [log in to unmask] The LACTNET mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renowned LISTSERV(R) list management software together with L-Soft's LSMTP(R) mailer for lightning fast mail delivery.
