Dear LactNets, I find again in need of your knowledge and the compulsion to respond to Barbara Walters comments. I have been enjoying all the varying comments regarding nurse-ins. It brings to mind an experience I wanted to share. A volunteer that helped me in my shop occasionally wanted so much to become educated in breast-feeding. I have given her a lot of references and tried to get her hired as a peer counselor for our WIC office. She was trying to earn money to attend a lactation counselor course. She was given a scholarship and she wanted to earn money by having a bake sale. When she asked me about it I told her that maybe her theme should be a bake sale to promote education of breast-feeding and that the funds she earned would be toward her education as a counselor. Her bake sale was a pretty successful. I provided her with educational material and flyers and some baked goods but was unable to attend with her due to conflicting schedules. What I was impressed with is that many people stopped by and contributed something even if they didn't buy any goods because they supported her cause. No negative comments were made. We are not a big metropolis but a growing community. My comment about Barbara Walters is I wish someone would have told her that nursing an infant during the flight is a lot like chewing gum to be much more comfortable on the ears!. I tell all my moms that are planning to fly and take their baby to nurse the baby on the plane. One more comment to Nancy Wright and her very bright son. Congratulation on his prize. I am going to post his study for my staff. I will have to post again my question due to the length of my post. Sorry!
