I am so impressed by Marsha Walker's work on the licensing issue in the USA, which has a very complicated health care system, to say the least. I imagine her efforts (and others with her) have been tremendous and, if passed, the law would be a model for all other states. Thank you, Marsha and any others working with you! As an aside, I did find it a hardship to travel from New Orleans to Atlanta in 1992 when I originally certified, and then again to travel from New Orleans to Jackson MS in 2002 when I re-certified by exam at the 10 yr mark. Those were the closest sites, besides Houston TX, still a fair dirive away. Besides the expense of the exam fees, there were travel expenses, meals, room and board, and missed work time (not re-imbursed by any employer). Not to mention being on the road alone and arranging for someone to take care of your kids. I think one thing that would be helpful would be some kind of way to take the exam by computer with a proctor. I have a friend who took the BSC course and went to local University library to take her exam for that coursework, under a proctor. Laurie Wheeler, IBCLC, MN, RN New Orleans Louisiana, s.e.
