In my child's preschool they didn't want me to keep staying through the 
morning with my daughter, who was having a lovely time at preschool but 
didn't like the separation aspect one bit.  Their argument was the same: 
the other kids' mothers can't / won't stay, so it wouldn't be fair to the 
other children to see Katie's mother staying with her.  I always thought 
that was an awful argument.  Level that playing field...downwards.  It 
reminds me of mothers who say "well I never nursed my first baby so it 
wouldn't be fair to nurse this one".  Huh.  I want to say "you did the best 
you knew how with your first baby, so do the best you know how with this 
one too!"
